{One Year Anniversary} Self Employed, Embracing Change & Prizes!

I had every intention of posting this on May 21st but the end of May was a bit hectic for us. Two weddings, Mini Sessions and vacation... I almost decided to just skip it altogether but really wanted to share and make a big deal about it.

A year ago on May 21st, I wrapped up my final day of being employed by someone else. I turned in the laptop, keys and Blackberry. Said good bye to friends and my huge desk and hill country views. Haha! Yes, I do miss that desk and window but I don't miss that job. I've written about my experience with leaving my day job before and some of the amazing and not so amazing things that have happened since then. It's been a roller coaster but I feel like I am finally coming into my own, figuring this out and taking control.

I did not get to this day on my own though so I need to thank a few people. Excuse me a minute while I do my best Oscars speech...

Thank you to my husband and best friend, James. I know you are my biggest fan and I love what this life with you has become and is becoming. I love being your office mate, morning coffee date and lunch partner. Thank you for always encouraging and believing in me.

Thank you to my mom, sisters and in-laws - more of my fans! You always ask how things are going, what I am working on and comment on my blog. It's the little things that mean the biggest. Thanks for always being willing models too!

There are also so many people I've met since starting this journey that I consider 'coworkers' in the wedding industry. They have become friends and are constant sources of encouragement, inspiration and support. You know who you are! Thank you!

I've been alluding to some changes happening around here so I thought this would be a good time to make this little announcement. After much discussion and some tears (on my part), James is 'leaving' Vignette. In the past year he has slowly been pulling out of a lot of business stuff but still helping me on shoots and at weddings. He'll help with a few more weddings this year - hauling equipment and running the photo booth - but the business is now 100% me. {Insert nail biting} This may not sound like big news but to me it's huge. I never thought I'd do this business without him so accepting the change has been hard but I feel like I am becoming more comfortable with it and moving foward. Current and future clients will still have 2 shooters at their wedding - that will never change. I have already worked with some stellar 2nds that I look forward to working with more.

Another little fun fact: Vignette also reached it's 3 year old mark last month! I think all these anniversaries and announcements deserve a giveaway or two - I have to celebrate!

Here's whats up for grabs:

A $25 gift card to Amazon
A $10 gift card to Amy's Ice Cream (what party is complete without ice cream?)
A Mini Session! (New clients only and must be scheduled in June or July.)

To enter: Comment below and be sure to include your email address! Then link to this post either on Twitter or Facebook. I'll choose winners on June 13th.

Thank you to Laurie for taking the awesome photo of me last year at the JVS Workshop. No post is complete without a photo, right?

    Elizabeth,
It takes a lot of courage to step out of the familiar and begin walking toward your dream. It’s exciting to learn that as we experience growth our dreams must expand beyond their original vision to accommodate our bigger and stronger wings. It’s been our joy to be a part of your support team and to watch you and James learn and grow together. Your in-laws are so very proud of you and believe in you! Love from Columbus xoxo
