About Vignette

Vignette Photography BioVignette Photography is made up of James and Elizabeth Hafner.

Most of the time, when you contact Vignette Photography you'll get the smiling face of Elizabeth on the other end of the telephone. Her experience with film-based photography ensures that you'll speak with someone who knows what she's talking about when you contact us.

Though Elizabeth handles most of the contact with clients, James does a majority of the shooting, except for weddings, where they are both available to contribute their unique styles. James has experience shooting weddings and commercial projects all over the country.

Through their years of combined experience, Elizabeth and James are able to work with you to ensure that the entire process is a smooth one for you and your family.

Feel free to contact us anytime.

What motivates you to shoot?

I love creating works of art as much as the next guy, but even more than simply using Vignette Photography as my creative outlet, I love seeing you loving the art we make for you--whether it's an album that magnificently captures your wedding day, a shot of your little one that you'll cherish for generations, or a simple wall portrait that makes you look fantastic. It's that look of excitement, the wonderful thank you notes, and the kind words of our clients that really helps me get out of bed in the morning. You could say that I'm in the business of making your day!

What do you do when you're not shooting?

As a self-professed geek, I love anything that has to do with technology. That includes everything from new photo gear, to new software, to computers, to operating systems--you name it...I tinker with it all. I also absolutely love web development. Building and tweaking websites is my second creative outlet, after photography. Of course, this all comes second to spending time with my beautiful wife, Elizabeth. We tend to have a blast together.

What kind of equipment do you use?

I shoot exclusively digital with professional Canon DSLR cameras and lenses. The quality is exceptional (better than film in some ways) and allows me to control everything about the photo, during and after the shot. I also utilize professional monolight strobes and light modifiers for studo work. All post processing is on high-end, color-calibrated monitors with professional photo processing software to ensure the highest quality shots. A completely digital workflow from shooting to processing to printing allows me to have total flexability when it comes to making images you'll love.

F.A.Q.s

Do you have a studio?

As much as we love studio work, no, not at the moment. Perhaps in the future, but right now we love scouting out new locations that would be fun to wander around and try something new/funky. Shooting in constantly-changing conditions (sunlight, locations, etc.) has the convenient quality of being just one more way we ensure that your photos are unique!

Vignette

What's with the name?

'Vignette Photography' was born out of James's love of the vignetting effect in photographs (the darkening of the corners in an image). Sometimes it's subtle, sometimes it's dramatic. Either way, it's always artistic.
